The launching of former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s 420-page memoir, titled, ‘A Journey in Service: An Autobiography of Ibrahim Babangida’ on Thursday turned out to be a day of the gathering of the royal Eagles, the gathering of the high and the mighty in Nigerian and African corridors of power, industry and commerce.

The top personalities that gathered at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, that day to honour former military President Babangida included serving Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Nigerian Presidents, former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo; former Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Wonie and topmost captains of politics, industry and commerce.

Vice President Kashim Shettima was also present at the event.
Former Nigerian Presidents and Heads of State in attendance included Chief (Dr) Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, General Yakubu Gowon, and General Abdulsalami Abubakar as well as former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo and Dr Yemi Osinbajo SAN who reviewed the book.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari was absent but represented at the event.
Other top political figures present at the event included Mr Peter Obi, the wave making Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 Elections in Nigeria and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Billionaire captains of industry and commerce conspicuously present at the event included Aliko Dangote, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Tony Elumelu, and Folorunsho Alakija, among others.
As has always been the case with almost everything associated with IBB, the event turned out to be, not only an event of beauty and power but also of history for it was here the issue of whether or not late MKO Abiola actually won the June 12 1993 Presidential Election was finally determined.
Former Vice President Osinbajo, who reviewed the book, held the elite guests spell bound as he revealed that in the much awaited book, General Babangida finally admitted that his friend and associate, the late MKO Abiola won the election and fulfilled all the required spread.
NewsOrient reports that as the bombshell was released, IBB, in his usual self, remained calm and calculated. Those who knew this retired Army General in his prime and during the days he held political power as Head of State and Military President will not expect less from the man they called ‘Maradona.’
