Prof Obiora Okonkwo, the Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, has declared interest to contest for the governorship election in Anambra State this year.

The election is currently scheduled for 8th day of November 2025.

Okonkwo made the declaration on Friday at a ceremony in his country home in Ire village, Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Inaugurating his Provisional Campaign Council, the business mogul said he intends to contest the election on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, his entrance into the race is “a movement to reclaim Anambra from stagnation.”

If elected, he pleged to place the Southeast state “on the path of sustainable development.”

A report in NAN quoted him as saying: “I cannot do it alone. I need your support; together, we can make Anambra a shining example of excellence and good governance.

“I pledge to prioritise the welfare and well-being of our people, particularly the youths, women and the vulnerable populations.

“My vision on this movement is to build an Anambra that is prosperous, secure, and globally competitive.

“No society can thrive without security and accountable leadership. We will work closely together with security agencies, invest in community policing and ensure efficiency in government.

“It is for this movement and for the good of our collective future that I intend to pursue this vision on the platform of APC.” NAN
