Why JAMB Relaxed Age Limit To 16 For 2025 Tertiary School Admission
28th October 2024, NewsOrient, News, Books, Arts, Culture
The decision of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to relax the 18-year minimum admission age for the 2024/2025 academic session was mainly due to pressure from critical stakeholders who maintained that it would be wrong to implement such policy so suddenly.
We gathered that JAMB leadership is of the opinion that 18 years policy for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria should be ideal but seems incapable of ignoring the argument that such a radical policy should be implemented systematically.
As a result, the examination body has said that for 2024/2025 academic session, institutions can admit candidates who will turn 16 by August 31, 2025, “provided they meet the institution’s standards.”
NewsOrient reports that this change of position and the statement has helped to clarify the confusion and controversy believed to have delayed release of admissions in most tertiary institutions for next academic session.
It would be recalled that JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Banjamin, gave the clarification when he spoke to newsmen on Thursday 17th October, 2024.
He said candidates who will turn 16 by August 31, 2025, are now eligible for admission, provided they meet the institution’s standards.
