18th August 2024, NewsOrient, Opinion, Column, News, Governance And Development, By Godwin Adindu
There has been a commendable effort by the government of Dr. Alex Otti, to ensure a clean enviroment for Abians. The two metropolis of Aba and Umuahia are wearing a clean look. The refuse heaps are constantly being evacuated. Our environment is being protected and secured. Our environment is our natural heritage.
The government has ensured that this heritage is preserved and secured. A good environment is connected to a good health. A healthy environment means a healthy life. This is a great achievement for the government of Alex Otti.
There is a sense in which the cleaning and maintenance of our environment resonates with the total cleansing of the Augean Stable. Since he came on board fifteen months ago, Governor Otti has engaged in social, mental and physical cleansing of the state to give Abia a new and fresh look. There has been a form of overhauling process to strengthen the wheel of government.
Governor Otti’s new Abia has survived the early teething period and has launched itself into a full adult life. After a successful one-year experience, the government is fully prepared to upscale its adventures. In the local parlance, Governor Otti is now on top of his game. He is marching on to conquer new grounds and expand new frontiers. The sustainability of our environment is a major feat and he has achieved this in record time.
Do you remember King Augeas, the mystical King of Elis in Ancient Greece? He left a stable with 3 million oxens uncleaned for 30 years. When King Hercules came on board, he accomplished the cleaning in one day in 12 efforts of labour. That was how the world got the phrase: Cleansing the Augean Stable.
Governor Alex Otti has taken the plunge. He has taken up the gauntlet. He has confronted the task wholeheartedly. He has proven to be ready and prepared. He has given us a clean, healthy and decent environment. He started by leading out in the evacuation of waste, personally evacuating refuse heaps that formed dunghills on the streets of Aba and Umuahia.
He followed sooth by ridding the streets of Abia of touts, agboros and street urchins. He is sanitising the method of revenue collection by stopping all manners of extortion, intimidation and harassment of motorists and commuters. He is ready. A ready man is prepared. Governor Otti is prepared.
