The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of Imo State Governorship Election.

With INEC’s declaration, Uzodimma, who has governed the state in the last four years, has been reelected for a second and final term as Governor of Imo State.

The electoral body said Uzodimma won in all the 27 local government areas of the state, posting a total vote of 540,308.

According to INEC, the People’s Democratic Party candidate, Samuel Anyanwu, got a total vote of 71,503 while Labour Party’s candidate, Athan Achonu, got a total vote of 64,081.

The result was announced after the Imo State Collation Centre reconvened yesterday with the Returning Officer, Professor Abayomi Fasina, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oye, Ekiti State, reading out the cumulative results for each party and party agents proceeding to sign the final results sheet.

At last he declared that APC got 540,308 votes, PDP 71,503 votes and LP 64,081 votes.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party have condemned the conduct of the election.

While PDP’s Anyanwu said INEC and security agencies worked together to manipulate the process in favour of the ruling APC, LP’s Achonu vows to approach the election petition tribunal to petition against the results.

On his part, Governor Hope Uzodimma of APC has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the election, saying the outcome of the election has justified him as the accepted leader of Imo.
