The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said it is not against political rallies in the Southeast, pointing out also that it has since cancelled the Monday sit-at-home order it introduced in 2021 in the region to protest detention of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Reports show however that despite IPOB’s repeated declaration that it has cancelled the sit-at- home order, offices, banks, marketplaces, motor parks, schools, petrol stations and every other public outlet have continued to be closed in the region every Monday.

IPOB’s latest clarification on it’s stand become necessary because of public reactions to All Progressives Congress’ Campaign Council’s earlier decision to schedule its campaign activities for its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Mondays in the Southeast.

Sources said it was because of reactions of concerned observers who expressed fear of possible clash with IPOB members that made APC to reschedule its timetable.

But in a statement on Sunday, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said there was no threat against any political rally in the Southeast on Mondays.

Powerful said: “No threat whatsoever because we have cancelled the non-existent Monday sit-at-home order since, but what the political parties should know is that there is insecurity in the Southeast and nobody should blame IPOB for any eventuality.

“IPOB is not interested in their jamboree selection process called Nigerian election.

“They are free to do their campaign but what we will not accept is a situation where they will clash with their political opponents and they will now blame it on IPOB”.
