Obi Visits Obasanjo Again
As part of his strategic consultations with critical stakeholders, Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, on Monday held a close door meeting with former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in Obasanjo’s home in Ogun State.
Obi’s frequent meetings with Obasanjo, ahead of the formal take off of the campaigns for Nigeria’s 2023 General Elections has elicited speculation that the elder statesman may have resolved to back Obi in the forthcoming elections.
Confirming the close door meeting, Obi twitted through his verified Twitter handle @PeterObi, late yesterday, “I deeply appreciate the opportunity to hold extensive discussions with President Olusegun Obasanjo earlier today on arising national interest matters. As usual, the exchanges were forthright and animated.”
It would be recalled that recently, Obi held several meetings with Dr Obasanjo, including the well reported meeting they held outside Nigeria.
Also, NewsOrient yesterday reported that Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, visited former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, and former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar at the weekend in their homes in Minna, Niger State.
Like in Monday’s meeting with General Olusegun Obasanjo, who also served as a Military Head of State of Nigeria before emerging a democratically elected President, the meetings with the leaders, according to Obi, were centred on the state of affairs of Nigeria and the way forward.
