The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned it’s 2027 Presidential slot to the Southern part of the country, even as the Northern part retains the Chairmanship position.

These are part of the key decisions the party leaders reached during their National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The NEC also affirmed Umar Damagum as its National Chairman.

It would be recalled that Damagum became the party’s Acting National Chairman in March 2023 after the former National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, was suspended.

The development became contentious until it was upheld by a court.

Before his appointment, Damagum was the PDP National Deputy Chairman (North).

With PDP’s decision to zone it’s Presidential ticket to the South, it is becoming clearer that virtually all the leading parties may present southerners as their Presidential candidates in 2027.

Already, the current president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will fly All Progressive Congress’ flag.

If ADC or the coalition follows suit, 2027 Presidential Election will be unique.
