2027 Elections: Abure-led LP NWC Says Obi, Otti Are No Longer Their Automatic Candidates
Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party has said its Presidential ticket for the 2027 Election is no longer reserved for Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the party.
The NWC also said the automatic second-term ticket it previously ceded to the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, ahead of 2027 Elections, will now be open to other aspirants.
The resolve of LP’s NWC to take these measures was disclosed by Barrister Abure in a press briefing he held after his party’s National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Monday.
Abure said: “NEC in session also reviewed the decision of the National Convention to reserve its Presidential and Governorship tickets for Peter Gregory Obi and Alex Otti, respectively.
“Consequently, all party tickets from the Presidency to the House of Assemblies are open to all qualified Nigerians.”
He argued that Abia State Governor does not have the power to convene the recent Stakeholders’ Meeting that produced the Labour Party’s Caretaker Committee chaired by Senator Nenadi Usman, a former Minister of Finance in Nigeria.
