2023 Presidency: APC Screens Okorocha

By Uche Udude

Former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, surprised many observers yesterday when he met the All Progressives Congress (APC) deadline yesterday for the screening of the party’s presidential aspirants.

The former governor, whose participation in the presidential election had been written off by many because of detention following Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s  allegation of his involment in a N2.9bn fraud, pulled a great surprise at the last minutes of the exercise, as he arrived at the venue of the All Progressives Congress’ presidential screening in Abuja to be screened.

His arrival at the venue of the screening exercise was made possible because a Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail on Tuesday morning in the sum of N500 million and a surety in like sum.

Analysts and many political observers had concluded that Okorocha will not be available for the two-day screening exercise following his dramatic arrest and detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission since last week Tuesday.

It would be recalled that the former governor had pleaded not guilty to the 17-count charge against him and other parties over the alleged N2.9 billion fraud.

With his appearance for the screening, the contest for the presidential ticket of the ruling APC has become even more intriguing.
